Soaring/crushing composition for Acusticum pipe organ, drums, synth, guitar and zither from Sweden’s Anna Von Hausswolff, presenting the Betatype version of Källan, which was first recorded and released by Touch as Källan (Prototype) in 2014, whereas this is a joint release between Anna’s Pomperipossa Records and Ash International.

Far as we can tell, Walter Ljungqvist’s coming-of-age novel, Källan (1961) provides the conceptual thrust of Anna’s majestic work, unfolding in two parts to reveal a sonic narrative surely worthy of some bloodied norse epic .

Now in its 2nd stage of recording and refinement, Källan continues to take on a life of its own, with Anna quite literally pumping wind into its lungs via the massive Acusticum organ, animating a craggy  topography of peaks also outlined by Karl Vento’s widescreen guitar and Filip Leyman’s synths in the ecstatic sprawl of the first movement.

In the second part they start at a low ebb of abyssal drone before Anna pipes up again from somewhere in a hazy middle-distance, keeping our attentions rapt towards that middle ground where they glacially coalesce around a dramatic sort of post-rock peak and out to a climax of steeple-tipping jet plane noise.
